Natick Turkey Shootout

(Friday Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving)

Don’t miss out on this year’s Natick Turkey Shootout! Established in 1995 with just five teams, Natick has continued the tradition of hosting this fun event annually for the last 22 years on the weekend following Thanksgiving. Last year’s shootout was a huge success with over 100 teams attending. The shootout follows MetroWest League rules and uses board-certified referees. We do our best to accommodate all special scheduling requests and start games on time. Please register early so you will not be left out of this great event!


Tournament Information and format:

Teams/Divisions:
Boys & Girls Teams, Grades 4 – 8, A & B divisions. No AAU teams please

Locations in Natick:
Natick High School, Natick Community Center, Wilson Middle School and Kennedy Middle School

Cost:
$250 prior to November 8 ($275 after November 8th).

Format:
All teams play three games. Games will be played on Fri/Sat/Sun following Thanksgiving. Games are 32 minutes, two 16-minute halves, stop time. Any games where the lead is 20+ will switch to running time. 4th and 5th grade teams may not play zone and may only press (man-to-man) in the last 2 minutes of the 1st half and the last 4 minutes of the 2nd half. Full shootout rules and other information (schedule, directions…) will be emailed to coaches after registration.

Please register early to avoid being left out. This pre-season event has sold out 12 years in a row! Inquiries about availability should be sent to Sean Landry. All registration must be done online (registration link available soon). Both credit card and Paypal options will be available for online payments. 2017 Turkey Shootout rules

MIAA High School and MetroWest league rules are used except as noted below.

Teams listed first ‘home team’ on the schedule will wear WHITE numbered shirts and are responsible for bringing and keeping the official scorebook at the scorer’s table for that game. Teams listed second ‘away team’ will wear DARK numbered shirts and are welcome to also keep an unofficial scorebook at the scorer’s table.

Natick Travel Basketball will provide electronic scoreboard operators.

*** TEAMS SHOULD BE AT GYM AND READY TO PLAY AT LEAST 20 MINUTES PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED GAME TIME AS GAMES CAN START EARLY ***

Gyms will open 30min prior to the start of the first game. Please do not arrive any earlier. Both teams should bring a game quality ball.

Games will consist of two 16 minute stop time halves with a 4 minute halftime period – in the second half if there’s a lead of 20+ pts game goes to running time – reverts back to stop time if lead goes below 20 pts – stop time for last minute of game regardless of score

FULL COURT PRESSURE

  • 6th-8th grade – allowed entire game
  • 4th+5th grade – not allowed except last 2 minutes of 1st half, last 4 minutes of 2nd half
  • ALL grades – not allowed when there’s a lead of 20+ pts.

TIMEOUTS
Three timeouts per team per game + ONE additional for overtime period

FOULS
2 shot bonus on 10th team foul of each half (there is no 1 and 1 prior to the 10th team foul)

OVERTIME

  • 2 minutes (stop time) + 1 extra timeout for each team
  • If still tied after 2:00 OT period – 3:00 running time sudden death (1st team to score 2 pts wins)
  • If neither team scores 2 pts the game ends in a tie
  • Full court pressure allowed for 4th + 5th grade 7

FREE THROWS (following metro-west league rules)

  • 4th/5th grade: allowed to take 1 step (approx. 2 ft) inside foul line
  • If shooting or stepping in front of foul line, shooter can not be first to control ball off rim

BACKCOURT
10 second back court rule is in effect


ADMISSION

  • Players and Coaches: Free
  • Kids: Free
  • Seniors: $3/day
  • Adults: $5/day
  • Weekend Pass: $8

Wristbands will be available at all locations.

FOOD & BEVERAGES.

Food and beverages including gatorade, candy, nutrition bars and water will be available at Natick High School, Wilson Middle School and Kennedy Middle School no food or drink will be sold at the Natick Community Center.
